The Sked multifunctional rescue stretcher or its alternative name the Sked Basic Rescue System has built a reputation worldwide for its ability to cope with confined space rescue, vertical and horizontal lifting by a winch on a helicopter or tripod as well as do all the actions that a conventional basket stretcher can do by being dragged or carried.

The Sked comes equipped for horizontal hoisting by helicopter or vertical hoisting in caves or industrial confined spaces. When the patient is packaged the stretcher becomes rigid. The durable plastic provides protection for the patient while allowing extrication through the most demanding confined spaces. The stretcher is rolled for storage in a tough Cordura backpack which is included with the system. The system comes complete with the stretcher, nylon backpack/towing harness, two straps, horizontal lift slings, vertical lift sling, one large steel carabiner(optional), and four removable web handles. Also available in O.D. Green for military, S.W.A.T. and other tactical situations.

Features

  • Compact storage
  • Easy to use
  • Flexibility in transport
  • Popular in fire departments, rescue squads, the military, and ski patrols.
  • Made from a heavy sheet of plastic, the stretcher becomes rigid when folded around your patient.
  • A variety of handles and straps allows the stretcher to be transported by carrying, lifting (vertically or horizontally) by rope systems or helicopter, or towed with the stretcher sliding on the smooth bottom surface.
  • The system comes complete with the stretcher, Cordura® nylon backpack/towing harness, two straps, horizontal lift slings, vertical lift sling, one large steel carabiner, and four removable web handles.

Summary of Instructions

  1. Remove the rolled Sked from the pack. It will need to be re-rolled from the outer side as the plastic has a memory. Then lay it out flat on the ground making sure it is the correct way up.
  2. Place, slide or roll the casualty, with appropriate padding and protection onto the Sked. The head end has the provision for the chest strap.
  3. Secure the spare strap around the casualty’s chest and through the appropriate grommets if the circumstances warrant.
  4. Secure the four cross straps across the top of the casualty to the buckles on the opposite side.
  5. Secure the straps which curl up the head and foot of the Sked by passing them through the appropriate grommets.
